Rupi Kaur has managed to do something that we should all aspire towards: make money off of turning Tumblr into poetry. The question here today isn’t about if you should respect her, or even whether or not you should dig her work. The question is, how do you make that sweet, sweet cheddar just like she did? Well, I’m gonna teach you how.
I know what you’re thinking: “Why am I still reading this?” And I know what you thought after that: “How is she going to teach me how to make that doe ray me?” Sure, it seems complicated—conning that many teenagers out of their pocket money—but if the Great Fidget Spinner of 2017 taught us anything, it’s that it’s not as hard as you might think.
So, here’s how you do it:
Step 1. Choose a generic quote from a mental health themed Instagram account.
Step 2. Change it slightly.
Step 3. Fuck with spacing.
Step 4. Find a black and white ink drawing that looks like it’s straight out of a melancholic adult colouring book.
Step 5. Send to print.
If you still find yourself struggling, play a little game of choose-your-own adventure to create your very own marketable, Rupi Kaur-style poem. You might be wondering, “If they’re so marketable, why would I give them away to you for free?” Well shit, these are the kinds of business skills you don’t have when you’re not in Rotman (Please, please, for the love of God, someone teach me how to network).
