VUSAC candidate: David Zhang

1. Why are you running for councillor?

Because I am passionate about catering to the needs and desires of my community. UofT is a very big place, and even though Victoria College is a nice, close-knit community, it is still very difficult to adjust from a high school environment to a university. I want to help out those who are struggling to adapt culturally, academically, and socially. I would also like to work up towards becoming the president of VUSAC one day. I’ve been in student government for a lot of my life and I think this opportunity would be mutually beneficial to myself and the community.

2. What sets you apart from other candidates?

I come from a very diverse background and I’ve lived in a lot of places. I was born in Montreal, but lived in China for 12 years, Singapore for three, and recently I lived in New York for three years as well. I’m also very comfortable when it comes to public speaking and being in front of people as I used to be the host of a reality TV show and thrive under the spotlight.

3. What commissions would you like to work on and why?

The Scarlet and Gold activities, and Athletics!

4. Do you have any personal ideas or projects that you would like to take up as a part of the VUSAC Council?

Vic Olympics. Have anyone in Vic sign up, and depending on the amount of people we can divide people into teams (eg. purple, pink, green, etc.) and have them compete in any categories of competition (athletics, trivia, etc.). Or maybe a dorm versus dorm competition of the same sort.

5. What will you do if you do not win?

Live on! I will still enjoy life as a Vic student and perhaps run again next year.

6. Give your personal review of the Northrop Frye McDonald’s.

I had it after class the other day, I’d give it a 5.5/10, wish it was Chipotle instead… If you vote for me maybe I’ll ask them to fix the ice cream machine too 🙂
