Looking to get involved in student life at Victoria College? Applications to join the Victoria University Students’ Administrative Council (VUSAC) are currently open, and everyone is encouraged to apply!

In case you’re unfamiliar with VUSAC, it offers myriad services to Vic students, from planning fun events, to administering clubs, to providing key benefits like five-cent printing and a student study lounge with cozy vibes. If you want to become immersed in life here at Vic and gain fundamental leadership skills, VUSAC is a great organization to partake in!

What positions are available?

VUSAC currently has eight councillor positions available: three exclusively available to first-years, three open to upper-year students, and two additional spots that will be filled according to the election results. VUSAC is also looking to elect a sustainability commissioner who will coordinate environmentally focused activities and initiatives here at Vic. However, be aware that councillor positions and the role of sustainability commissioner are mutually exclusive; you cannot run for both.

There are also several ex officio positions—separate from VUSAC, but still specific to Victoria College—up for grabs. There are six spots open on the Victoria College Committee, as well as one spot for Victoria University Senate Representative, and one spot as Victoria College Director on the University of Toronto Students Union (UTSU). If you’re interested in more than one ex officio position—not to worry! You can run for multiple ex officio spots simultaneously, or for a combination of a VUSAC and ex officio positions.

How can you apply?

Those interested in running for a VUSAC position need to fill out a nomination form, which contains a sheet where candidates must gather at least ten signatures of nomination. The nomination package also outlines pertinent information and important dates regarding the election, so if you want to run but aren’t quite sure where to start, it’s got you covered! Nomination packages are available outside the VUSAC Office in the Goldring Student Centre or can be accessed on the VUSAC website under “Elections.”

Important Dates

Nomination packages are due September 20 and must be submitted to the VUSAC Office in the CRO cubicle before 4 pm. Following submission, there will be an All Candidates Meeting at 7:30 pm on the same day. And with that the campaign period officially begins!

The campaign period will last for one week, ending on September 27 at midnight. That evening, VUSAC will hold a Candidate Town Hall to give candidates the opportunity to publicly share their goals and initiatives for the upcoming semester.

Voting will be open from September 28 to October 1 at voting.utoronto.ca, after which there will be an appeals period (October 2 to 3) in case of any discrepancies. Lastly, on October 4, the names of the electees will be announced!

Good luck to all the candidates out there, and thank you all for your commitment to improving student life at Vic!
