An overview of Vic’s recent deal with Executek International and the future of campus security
As Vic students settle into the 2024/2025 academic year, the college continues to implement new programs and campus strategies. This includes a contract with a new campus security firm. Upon its prior security contract expiring on July 31, 2024, Victoria University issued a request for proposal (RFP) for new campus security services. This proposal outlined the project and responsibilities of managing Vic security, and solicited bids from various qualified organisations.
The selected bidder was Executek International, a security and risk management solutions provider. Executek also provides security services to the greater University of Toronto. The firm is under contract to provide Building Patrollers across the university campus alongside security guards employed by the University of Toronto. Executek security guards are usually temporarily assigned rather than full-time workers, and fill various security roles as needed. All Building Patrollers — Executek and employees — are in consistent contact with Campus Safety dispatch and are supplied with Campus Safety radios. Executek’s new contract with Victoria University will work to ensure greater cohesion and coordination of the University of Toronto’s larger Campus Safety Services.
This new security deal aims to enhance and further Vic’s security strategies and operations. Given the campus’s location in Downtown Toronto and parallel to Queens Park, many students feel concerned for their safety on a day-to-day basis. As Vic begins this new arrangement, students hope the University will consider their concerns, and work to make the campus a physically, emotionally, and socially safe space for all.
