A cover of the new mural at Cat’s Eye painted by Sophia Paez; covering its significance in this student space
Artist Sophia Paez painted a new mural at The Cat’s Eye. The mural depicts an abstract image of a cat, which is a reference to the name of the student space.
The mural represents the constant ebb and flow of people around the space and mirrors the character of The Cat’s Eye. This is a student space located on the first floor of the Goldring Student Centre, with spaces to relax and access game equipment and musical instruments.
The mural is directly beside The Cat’s Eye entrance, accessible through Ned’s Café, where students, executives, and subcommittee members often spend their time and enjoy meals and coffee. People who walk up the ramp at this entrance will pass by this noticeable work of art.
In a statement from the Operations Coordinator, Anna Novak, the mural was intended to emphasise their mission to create a “free, safe, and comfortable space for everyone to feel welcome in.”
The Cat’s Eye also aims to alter the appearance of the space by adopting an alternative and darker aesthetic. The mural has a grey background and a colour scheme of red, pink, and light indigo accents. The name of the student space is written in a dark red colour in an abstract and artistic font.
The Cat’s Eye operations team appreciates Sophia Paez’s exceptional work on the mural.
