Calliope and the Sirens

Calliope

  Voice like a salved bruise,

  I sing atop the heavens,

  Chanting a sweet breeze

Agalope

  Echoing the western sea,

The victor of song mocks me

 Leucosia

    This golden goddess

This winged sage to brave men,

    This pure counsellor,

   Ligeia

    Recites tales of our defeat,

    Voyagers breaking our siege

       Calliope

     Avert the poison,

     Seeped in those cold melodies,

     Await such tainted fangs

   Agalope

   She thunders above the ship,

   Laden with hungry bruisers

   Leucosia

    With our morphing skin,

    Deems us courtesans of death,

    Lurking monstresses

       Ligeia

     Sick serpents playing women,

A horror of claws and tails

      Calliope

    Firm wax in your ears,

Wring your bows and wield your spears,

    Cease their instruments

     Agalope

Tread the path of a temptress,

   Ensnare them in azure waves

    Leucosia

   Trap their paddling oars

   In moss and anemone

   Leave only torn skin

      Ligeia

     My sisters, listen only,

to rush of the falling tides

      Calliope

    Heroes, beware of

     their cold, saccharine voices,

    Piercing your chest

        Agalope

Afraid the Muse speaks the truth,

We only sing empty notes

       Leucosia

No warm honey drips,

Only pastiche harmonies

Leak from our barbed throats

     Ligeia

Defiled maidens in your dreams,

More licentious than Cypris

         Calliope

Slay these vile harlots

Mermaid, lover, fellow muse,

They pose for your lust

Agalope

For the gods never declared

Which body belonged to us

       Leucosia

Pale, dark, tan, olive

Washing off our scaly skins,

To catch their wary eyes

     Ligeia

Seduce and live again,

Or perish in blue abyss

  Calliope

Brave Odysseus,

Rally your barbarians!

Dye this sea crimson!

Agalope

Our bare breasts and hair unbound,

Our soft lips part, mouths unlatched

     Leucosia

Ready to feed on

These weary, calloused bodies,

Or they will feed on my own

  Ligeia

Rip us with pointed weapons,

Sharper than those iron spears

Agalope

Chaste Calliope,

You defied Kronos and Mourai,

To sing these warnings

     Leucosia

Entitled us impure beasts

To be massacred and shamed

  Ligeia

Oh Muse, turn your gaze

Upon these wayward women

For once, hear our tune

Agalope Leucosia Ligeia

If only you’d sang to us,

If only you’d warned me.

                                                                  Calliope
